A major objective of this study is to provide clients with a marketing-technical analysis of the specific chemicals used for corrosion inhibition including antiscalants and dispersing agents.
Each of the specific chemicals and reactants identified has been analyzed as to its consumption in 1986 and its projected consumption in 1988 and 1991, in pounds and current dollars. Projected consumption estimates for each of the selected market areas was based upon a thorough analyses of technical trends at work, the need for improved corrosion inhibitors and the impact of government agency regulations.
Additional objectives are to provide an understanding of the business environment for marketing corrosion inhibitor chemicals including producer/suppliers, market shares, pricing and methods of distribution to reach the market place.
The scope of this study was to identify those specific chemicals and raw materials used for the manufacture of corrosion inhibitors. Included are those chemicals used to prevent scaling and precipitation (dispersants), which can lead to corrosion problems.
This study included analysis, in the United States, of market areas considered most important for the consumption of chemical corrosion inhibitors, antiscalants and dispersing agents.
Those corrosion inhibitor market areas investigated include:
- Oil and Gas Drilling Fluids
- Oil and Gas Production
- Petroleum Refining
- Oil and Gas Pipelines
- Fuel Additives
- Fireside Additives
- Lubricating Oils
- Metalworking Fluids
- Industrial Cleaning
- Steel Pickling
- Antifreeze/Deinking
- Cooling Water
- Boiler Water
- Pulp and Paper Process Water
- Municipal Water
- Reinforced Concrete
- Paint and Coatings
To gather the pertinent information and data for this study, 447 companies were contacted at 468 locations throughout the United States. These contacts included raw material producers, corrosion inhibitor manufacturers, service companies, additive package formulators, government agencies, trade associations and end users.
