Concrete Admixture Chemicals - Europe.
Objectives of Study.
The important objective of this investigation is to provide a thorough understanding of the European concrete admixture business and the consumption of the chemical raw materials used in their formulations for 2002 and projected through 2007 in kilograms and euros. Additional objectives are to determine the use and consumption of chemical additives, pigments and fibers. The study also identifies opportunities for new concrete admixture chemicals because of technological changes including use of self-consolidating concrete (SCC).

Scope of Study.
The scope of this study includes the investigation of the following European countries and geographic areas:

  • Austria
  • Benelux Countries
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Portugal
  • Scandinavian Countries
  • Spain
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom
The following concrete admixtures, chemical additives and materials were investigated;
  • Low Range Water Reducer Admixtures
  • High Range Water Reducer Admixtures
  • Retarder Admixtures
  • Air Entraining Admixtures
  • Viscosity Modifiers Admixtures
  • Accelerator Admixtures
  • Waterproofing Admixtures
  • Shrinkage Reducing Admixtures
  • Antifoam Additives
  • Biocide Additives
  • Pigment Colorants
  • Fibers
Study Methodology.
To gather all of the information and data to prepare this marketing-technical study, over 100 persons were contacted. Contacts were made with technical, sales and marketing personnel at chemical and polymer producing companies, concrete admixture formulators, ready mix concrete producers, precast concrete producers and pigment and fiber producers. Additional contacts were made with government agencies and trade associations.
